"Aydin Teker, in aKabi, sets herself a challenge by
putting her dancers into shoes of different height and
form. While searching new possibilities of movement
with and in spite of the shoes, there emerges a new
body language out of contradictions like balance/off
balance, and symmetry/ asymmetry...
The shoes become the most determining organs of the
body, they even become autonomous creatures: they
revolt against the whole body, they move and play
independently in the air or on the floor. The bodies, in
return, struggle to adjust themselves in this fury, they
walk on the limits, and in this process they take
tremendous risks. We are faced with the imagery of the
"human condition"; the struggle for existence and the
capacity of transformation in a constant process of
'becoming'. aKabi seems to shuffle our memory of the
past within contemporary and futuristic issues."

who, after a long career of some decades, remains one of it’s

La relation à la gravité, à la pesanteur est chamboulée,
et c’est tout l’équilibre du corps qui se déplace – offrant
à la danse de nouveaux territoires. À chaque paire de
chaussures, une nouvelle connexion se développe – à
l’environnement, au sol, aux autres danseurs.
Entre expérimentation physique sur les limites de
l’organisme et recherche de la beauté inscrite dans
cette matière mouvante, Aydin Teker propose de
l’évolution une vision propice aux fulgurances visuelles.
Des images étranges ou grotesques émergent, images
d’êtres fantastiques, mythologiques, qui nous renvoient
aussi à la peur ou au fantasme d’une humanité mutante.
du Ankara State Conservatory en 1973 et rejoint l’Ankara State
Opera and Ballet comme danseuse. En 1976, grâce à une
bourse, elle part à Londres puis aux Etats Unis où elle travaille,
entre autre, avec le Kazuko Hirabayashi Dance Thatre, la
Markus Schulkind Dance Company et la New Haven Dance
Repertory Company. En 1982, elle retourne en Turquie et
travaille comme professeur de danse et chorégraphe au Mimar
Sinan University, State Conservatory. Ses travaux ont été
présentés dans plusieurs pays et une des ses récentes
chorégraphies Density a obtenu le Prix Spécial du Festival
Theater Spektakel de Zurich. Elle dirige le département de
danse moderne à la Mimar Sinan University d’Istanbul.
